Girish Shivakumar from India’s Mission Shunya podcast caught up with ClimateWorks Australia’s Tom Yankos to discuss the implications of the Decarbonisation Futures report.

Tom explained how the modelling in the report gave reason for optimism.

‘Unfortunately, we’ve missed our chance to start reducing emissions in the last decade. So that’s why we’ve now entered this transformational decade, the climate action. And in order to stay within the global 1.5 and 2 degree carbon budget and climate goals, the emissions really do need to head towards zero at a steep pace. So the good news is that our analysis finds that we can do this, and we can do this by accelerating the deployment and development of available technologies. And this will allow us to leapfrog to net zero emission solutions.’
